The young Ayrshire heifer glances out one of the open windows in the loafing shed. As she watches the snow quietly fall, it covers her farm in a blanket of white.
Where are those green, lush fields that she and the herd pastured on? Where are the warm rays of the sun and the slow flowing creek? All have turned into a pretty white, but cold winter wonderland.
When she approached the window, she thought she heard the whisper of spring in the air, but the perky little chickadee who's now eyeing up a bright red berry for supper knows that what the Ayrshire longs for is still a few months away. Even though it is snowing now, soon spring will really be here.
